Classical Dance Center Classical Dance Center

The Classical Dance Center offers instruction in classical ballet.  Class is taught in the Russian technique, in the traditional format of barre and center work, with an emphasis on proper placement and alignment with the intent to build strength and flexibility.   The student learns how to move correctly within individual range of motion while working with the elements of ballet positions, ports de bras, line and musicality.  This provides the foundation for the dancer to progress in the study of dance and to learn to execute and perform ballet as a classical, graceful and exciting expression of dance in its traditional art form.  A vocabulary of dance is also learned, giving the student a dance education that can be applied to further study as well as other forms of dance.

Fall Session starts on Thursday, September 10, 2015

Come and meet the instructor on Thursday, September 10, 2015 from 7:30 - 9:00 p.m., and take a free 1/2 hour class at the barre at 8:00 p.m. (pre-registration necessary)

The instructor, Arlene Zolla, has been teaching Russian classical ballet for 12 years and comes from a background of various forms of dance, having studied classical ballet, jazz, tap, musical theater, contemporary and vintage ballroom dance.  She has taught classes and private lessons in ballet, jazz and tap for both adults and children, has coached dance for gymnastics, and has performed in and choreographed dance performances, musical theater productions, fashion shows, and liturgical dance in the Boston and Greater Boston area.    She is a member of the Dance Teacher’s Club of Boston and the American Society (DTCB/AS).

Question: I have studied ballet before, but what if I am more of a beginner than at an intermediate level?   What if I have studied before, but it was years ago?
Answer: Dancers with prior study in ballet are welcome.   Familiarity with the elements of ballet is necessary, as the class is taught with this understanding.   There are often different levels of ability among students in the class, and these can be accommodated.  Often there are students resuming study after a long absence which will necessitate training and strengthening at a beginner level again.   If this is your situation, you may find the class suitable.

Question: I have never studied ballet before.  Is there a class for those who are just starting?
Answer: At this time there is no class for the adult or teen who has never studied ballet previously.  If you would still like to discuss your interest in studying, please contact the instructor.

Question: What type of dance attire is required?
Answer: Leotard, pink or tan tights, and ballet slippers.  Ballet skirts are optional, yet popular.

Question: Do I need to sign up for a certain number of classes?
Answer: Class may be taken from week to week at a single class rate.  Sign-up for a term of classes is available at a term rate.  Please contact us for details and current rates.
